Biography

Josh Dorfman is a sustainability entrepreneur and brand builder dedicated to scaling mission-driven ventures. He is co-founder & CEO of Plantd, a carbon-negative building materials company pioneering a new path to reach gigaton-scale carbon capture. He currently serves on Governor Roy Cooper’s North Carolina Entrepreneurship Council.

Previously, Josh was CEO of The Collider, the nation’s first innovation center for big data climate resilience and adaptation solutions. Josh set the organization’s vision and strategy and cultivated a global entrepreneurial ecosystem for climate analytics ventures. He was also co-founder & CEO of Simbly, an award-winning, modern design, sustainable furniture company manufacturing in North Carolina.

At Amazon/Quidsi, Josh launched and led natural & organic e-commerce brand Vine.com. He developed sustainability product standards for other Amazon businesses, including Diapers.com, Soap.com, and Wag.com. Earlier, Josh was VP of Marketing for GoodGuide, a “Fast Company 50” innovator and early B Corporation, bringing radical transparency to consumer products based on their health, environmental, and social performance. Josh’s first sustainable furniture company, Vivavi, was named to Inc. Magazine’s “Green 50” in 2006 as a pioneer in accelerating the green economy.

Josh is also known as “The Lazy Environmentalist,” a multi-platform entertainment brand he founded to help consumers green their lifestyles more easily, immediately, and affordably. Josh built the brand into an award-winning television series on Sundance Channel, a daily SiriusXM radio show, a book series, and multiple national spokesperson agreements, including with Brita and Clorox GreenWorks.

Josh was co-founder and Managing Director of Asheville Angels, an early-stage angel investment group. Notable portfolio ventures include Proterra (EV buses – IPO), FarmShots (precision ag – acquired by Syngenta), and Atlas Organics (commercial composting – acquired by Generate Capital).

Josh is a frequent keynote speaker focused on guiding companies and consumers towards innovative sustainability practices and improved outcomes and has addressed numerous organizations, including The New York Federal Reserve, Google, Salesforce, PepsiCo, Volkswagen, Bristol Myers Squibb, The Anthony Robbins Companies, The North Face, The Aspen Institute, Notre Dame University, and Yale University.
