Biography

Bill Capp is founder of Grid Storage Consulting (GSC), providing advisory services to clients interested in expanding the use of energy storage at the grid level.

Bill works as a strategic advisor to Storworks Power in Arvada, CO.  Storworks is developing very low cost thermal energy storage systems able to transform legacy steam assets into high value flexible storage required to integrate variable wind and solar generation.  Storworks also provides thermal storage for industrial decarbonization.

Before founding GSC, he was President and CEO of Beacon Power Corporation for 10 years.   Beacon was the first publicly traded “pure play” grid energy storage company.  He led the development of Beacon’s flywheel energy storage technology while simultaneously working with FERC, grid operators, and public service commissions to create markets for energy storage based frequency regulation. Beacon regulation facilities are operating in the New England and New York grid.

His career includes leadership roles in general management and technology in diverse companies including Ford Motor Company, Torrington, York International and Ingersoll-Rand.

He has a BSAE from Purdue University and a MSME from the University of Michigan, where he also earned his MBA.  Bill has seven patents in diverse areas including microgrid design and PV systems.
