Visit IE at the Annual UNC Science Expo Apr. 9

On Saturday, Apr. 9, the UNC Institute for the Environment’s Environmental Resource Program (ERP) will host an exhibit at the UNC Science Expo. Annually, the Expo attracts over 1,000 attendees of all ages to engage with scientists and educators from 100 different UNC departments, centers and programs. In collaboration with the UNC Superfund Research Program, ERP staff will share information and lead hands-on activities about how toxic metals, like arsenic and lead, get into our bodies, how we can reduce our exposure to these metals, and what makes some people more susceptible than others to the health effects of toxic metals. The ERP exhibit draws on UNC research on arsenic in well water and our statewide partnerships with local communities addressing lead poisoning prevention.

The 2016 UNC Science Expo is a free, family-friendly event offering more than 100 fascinating exhibits with hands-on experiments, riveting demonstrations, laboratory tours, stage entertainment and much more! This NC Science Festival signature event showcasing the wonders of science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) is a partnership between Morehead Planetarium and Science Center, the University of North Carolina and the Town of Chapel Hill – a true “town-gown” experience.

This UNC Science Expo is organized by UNC’s Morehead Planetarium and Science Center as part of the North Carolina Science Festival.
