In the News: Go with the Flow

One of IE’s IDEA undergraduate student’s, Savannah Swinea, is featured in a UNC Research Endeavors article “Go with the Flow.” Swinea is paired up with Kaylyn Gootman, a Ph.D. candidate in the Curriculum in Environment and Ecology, to study stream beds.
“I was looking for research opportunities for the summer and realized that UNC has a program for students in the geosciences from underrepresented communities,” Swinea says. The IDEA Undergraduate Research Experience, a program funded by the National Science Foundation and administered by UNC Institute for the Environment, matched Swinea with Gootman and the two women have created a strong partnership.
