UNC Clean Tech Speaker
Tony Smith is responsible for all internal controls (including both internal audit & ongoing business controls), corporate financial planning & analysis, insurance & risk management and warranty operations for Strata Solar. He directly manages a team of five MBA-level financial analysts and indirectly manages (dotted line support) a team of four warranty managers. Tony provides ongoing support to four separate business lines, with 350+ permanent staff and 2000+ temporary construction staff. He is deeply involved in the day-to-day operations of Strata Solar, as well as handling all short- and long-term financial strategy as it relates to future-looking models on P&L performance.
Before joining Strata Solar, he worked, for 10 years, at numerous positions at Lenovo, the largest PC maker in the world. In his final role at Lenovo, he managed warranty costs worldwide for Lenovo’s newest business, Data Center Group with operational focus on data center base warranty costs, and additional focus on very profitable services — upsell and maintenance services, (example: warranty extension and/or warranty upgrade revenue) for x86 servers, storage, software, managed services and professional services.
Outside of work, he enjoys spending time with his family, including hiking with his wife and two children. Personal (and very proud) accomplishments including running the Detroit Marathon, biking 300+ miles from Ann Arbor to Mackinac Island, Michigan, spending two weeks hiking over 120 miles with my son at Philmont Scout Ranch (in New Mexico) and traveling to Russia with my family for mission work at a local orphanage.
