Jerry Barnes

Biography
Jerry Barnes, P.E., is responsible for regional marine planning and the aids to navigation system used by maritime traffic in the Mid-Atlantic region. In this capacity, he represents Coast Guard interests in the siting of offshore renewable energy facilities and directs a variety of studies to improve and modernize the navigational aids and information systems that ensure safe navigation and efficiency of the marine transportation system.
Jerry joined the Fifth Coast Guard District as a civil servant in April 2019 after retiring from a 27-year career in the U.S. Coast Guard, where he served primarily in the fields of marine safety and transportation systems management. He is a licensed Professional Engineer in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
Jerry holds a B.S.E. in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering from the U.S. Coast Guard Academy and a M.S.E. in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering and a M.S.E. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Michigan.
