UNC Clean Tech Speaker
Jim Poch is a sales and marketing professional with over 25 years of experience selling technology products and services. In 2006, Jim decided to create Plug In Carolina, the Carolinas first plugin vehicle advocacy organization. In six years, Plug In Carolina was able to mobilize electric utility, non-profits, and other stakeholders into a unified voice supporting electric vehicles. Plug In Carolina helped pass a state income tax credit for electric vehicles, raised $500,000 for infrastructure, and managed the deployment of over one hundred electric vehicle charging stations. In 2013, Jim suspended Plug In Carolina operations while sales of electric vehicles caught up to the progress made in South Carolina! During that time, Jim remained in the sustainability industry heading up the South Carolina Clean Energy Business Alliance and acted as a Client Development Manager for Schneider Electric’s Energy Services and Sustainability division. In 2018, Jim joined Duke Energy as an Electric Transportation Manager for South Carolina. In this role he is helping to deploy all things electric in the transportation sector including personal vehicles, commercial, transit, school bus, and other emerging technologies. Jim is a graduate from the University of South Carolina and lives in Charleston with his wife, two boys, dog, cat, and a red Chevy Volt that he has driven over 232,000 miles.
