DR. ANDRE P. MAZZOLENI, is an Associate Professor of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at North Carolina State University. He has Ph.D. and Masters degrees in Engineering Mechanics from the University of Wisconsin, a Masters degree in Mathematics from the University of Wisconsin and a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from Duke University. Dr. Mazzoleni is a registered Professional Engineer and is Director of the Engineering Mechanics and Space Systems Laboratory (EMSSL) at NC State. Current projects underway at the EMSSL include development and testing of bio-inspired Mars Rovers, trajectory control systems for high-altitude super-pressure research balloons, computer modeling of medical implants used in spinal fusion surgeries, and modeling and testing of tethered underwater turbine systems to be used to extract energy from the Gulf Stream off the coast of North Carolina.
