Biography

Alyson West joined HSRC as a Junior Research Associate in May 2018. She primarily focuses on Walk Friendly Communities, Watch for Me NC, the Pedestrian & Bicycle Information Center, and supports related bicycle and pedestrian safety research efforts at HSRC.
Outside of work hours, West currently serves on the Orange Unified Transportation Board for Orange County, NC, and is involved with the Carrboro Bicycle Coalition. As a former resident of both Germany and Australia, she gained firsthand experience being a pedestrian and a bicyclist in international contexts, and was fortunate to have participated in a “systemic safety” study program in the Netherlands with Portland State University in 2017.
Alyson holds a master’s degree in City and Regional Planning from the University of North Carolina – Chapel Hill where she specialized in transportation planning. She completed her bachelor’s degree in German Area Studies at Lewis & Clark College in Portland, OR.
