Abigail Brewer

Communications and Engagement Specialist, Sustainable Carolina

Biography

Abigail Brewer is a communications and engagement specialist for Sustainable Carolina, within the UNC Institute for the Environment. Before coming to UNC, Abigail was the communications and social media coordinator at The Hunt Institute, an education policy nonprofit. In this role, she enjoyed creating communication plans to disseminate research and publications on the latest trends across the education continuum.

Abigail has always been passionate about science communication. As an undergraduate student, she studied biology and electronic journalism, and feels lucky to have spent one summer studying abroad in the Galapagos. Following graduation, Abigail worked in exhibit development at the Museum of Life and Science for a few years. She returned to UNC in 2017 to pursue a master’s in strategic communication. For her thesis, she worked with the Albemarle-Pamlico National Estuary Partnership to devise a communication and engagement strategy explaining the significance of seagrass in estuarine systems.
