NEW year-long professional development program for 
DPS 6th-12th grade science teachers

ERP_Inspires topicsConnect with other DPS science teachers! Any 6th-12th grade DPS science teacher, from traditional or year-round schools, is eligible to apply; 8th grade and environmental science teachers are especially encouraged. This program will benefit new and experienced science teachers!

Construct new knowledge and collect resources that align with the NC Essential Standards for Science and integrate practices outlined in the Next Generation Science Standards.

Customize your INSPIRES experience by selecting from a variety of workshops to acquire at least 25 hours of professional development:

  • Teacher workday INSPIRES workshop (February 15th, 2016)
  • Early release day INSPIRES workshops (TBD)
  • Saturday INSPIRES excursions (October 17th, 2015 and April 30, 2016)
  • INSPIRES end of year share session (June 2016)

Cultivate your leadership potential by conducting a STEM-related leadership development activity of your choice (e.g. mentoring activity or lesson development). An additional 5 hours of professional development will be offered upon completion of this activity, culminating in a final program certificate for at least 3 CEUs.

2015-2016 INSPIRES Fellows received:

  • updated content knowledge about current and emerging water issues
  • access to scientists and cutting edge research findings
  • up to $400 in instructional materials to support STEM investigations
  • water-focused outdoor learning experiences
  • classroom integration and best practices conversations with colleagues
  • opportunity to conduct one or more leadership development activities
  • credit towards CEUs and the NC EE Certification Program
  • $100 stipend upon completion of each Saturday INSPIRES workshop
  • substitute reimbursement to attend non-workday INSPIRES workshops
  • opportunity to attend the NC CLEAN TECH Summit
  • opportunity to present at state and regional science teacher conferences
