Blockchain is an emerging technology with direct implications for sustainability because it enables social responsibility into the digital revolution. This seminar will answer frequently asked questions about what blockchain is, explain how it fits into the historical context and current landscape of sustainable technology, and explore example applications in energy, the environment, and the economy through the lens of sustainability.
Eric Scheier is Principal at Scheier Ventures where he advises, consults, and collaborates with early stage ventures focused on sustainable technology. Since starting the company as a student at UNC, he has worked with clients around the world on projects ranging from trading environmental commodities in Washington D.C. to off-grid solar+ deployment in West Africa.
At UNC Eric studied Environmental Science and Economics, concentrated in Energy & Sustainability, and minored in Mathematics and Entrepreneurship. He was a member of the Sustainability Living Learning Community, RESPC, helped author the bienneial Sustainability Report, and conducted research at the IE’s UK and Thailand field sites.
