Teen Climate Ambassadors

Grades 9–12 (in 2025–2026 school year)

Teens work on designing a box fan filter to reduce air pollution. Teen Climate Ambassadors are youth who explore local climate impacts in their communities and investigate strategies for increasing community resilience through field experiences, hands-on activities, and experiments using cutting-edge science and technology.

Teen Climate Ambassadors commit to the following:

  • Participation from 9 AM – 4:30 PM daily in a Summer Institute at the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences Nature Research Center (NRC) from Monday, July 28 through Friday, August 1. The NRC is located at 121 West Jones Street in downtown Raleigh. Transportation will be provided for any offsite field trips.

Fee: $0. Participants who complete the week-long program will receive a modest stipend. Participants who complete an optional Action Project during the 2025-2026 school year may be eligible for an additional stipend.

Teens pick up litter in a park during a service learning project.This program is offered by the NC Museum of Natural Sciences in partnership with the UNC Institute for the Environment.

Applications are now open. The application deadline is Friday, April 4 at 11:59 PM. Applicants will be notified of their status by Monday, April 21.

This application-based program is highly competitive, and we receive more applications than we can accept. If selected for the program, you will be expected to uphold the required commitment described above and attend the Institute in its entirety.
