ERP_boots in mud creekTwenty-two IDEA High School Students participated in a 6-day Summer Science Institute on July 6-11.  The students investigated two urban streams in Durham – Mud Creek and Ellerbe Creek – and collected biological, chemical, and physical data on stream health.  The students also learned about careers in the geosciences, green infrastructure, and  land use decisions that impact water quality and quantity.  During the 2015-2016 school year, the students will participate in Saturday Academies to learn more about the geosciences and geoscience careers.

Rising 9th-12th grade students participated from schools in Chatham, Durham, Granville, Orange, and Wake counties including Cedar Ridge High School, Centennial Campus Magnet, Chapel Hill High School, East Chapel Hill High School, The Hawbridge School, Jordan High School, J.D. Clement Early College High School, J.F. Webb High School, Kestrel Heights High School, Middle College High School, Northwood High School, Orange High School, Research Triangle High School, Riverside High School, and Southern School of Energy and Sustainability.
