ERP_Majora 2 Majora Carter, urban revitalization strategist and social-enterprise pioneer, delivered the Campus Earth Week Keynote Address at UNC on Wednesday, April 15th. This event kicked off a week of activities focused on recognizing sustainability initiatives at UNC and envisioning an even more sustainable future for the campus. Carter has become a leader in the environmental justice movement through her work to revitalize urban neighborhoods across the US in environmentally responsible ways and to advance the economic development of underserved and minority populations.

ERP_MajoraBefore the keynote speech, Majora met with a small group of high school students aspiring to work in the environmental sciences. During the session, she described her own career path–from fighting to bring green space and job training to the South Bronx, to the formation of her own economic consulting and planning firm, the Majora Carter Group, to expand this work to communities across the country. Majora closed the discussion by reminding the students that they are the future of the environmental justice movement and encouraged the students to follow their passions to change the world for the better.
