We are building a watershed stewardship network, regularly provide support to local watershed organizations, and have developed outreach materials to help businesses reduce stormwater pollution. We have mapped hotspots for groundwater contamination in NC and provide professional development opportunities about water-related issues in NC in recognition that water quality and quantity are crucial for ecosystem and human health.
We work to promote an energy literate society by providing teacher professional development and summer science enrichment activities for middle and high school students that give participants access to current scientific information and relevant resources to help make informed decisions in an interdisciplinary, hands-on and minds-on format.
We conduct research translation and community engagement activities on a variety of topics such as asthma, breast cancer, and hazardous waste to enable North Carolina’s public health and housing professionals, teachers and local communities to make informed decisions about their exposure to environmental influences upon disease and reduce risk.
We work to promote an earth science literate society by providing single and multi-day professional development workshops for teachers as well as summer science enrichment activities for high school and undergraduate students to provide participants access to current scientific information and relevant resources to help make informed decisions in an interdisciplinary, hands-on and minds-on format.
