Smart and Connected Communities

Wednesday, March 1st, 2017

UNC Carolina Club

Can innovative smart city technology create coherent and inclusive cities?

Smart Cities are a hot topic. But what are they and what is really behind the concept? Individual tech and IT firms may have brilliant ideas, but how do we know that these will work in your community, without impeding other important issues and initiatives? How do we embed accountability? How do we work from a wide systems perspective that includes all important themes, structures and foremost of all citizens?

This pre-summit event is for local government employees, developers, participants from industry, students and faculty. The day will offer keynote speakers and panelists who will provide an update on state-of-the-art global smart city developments, answer questions on why smart city solutions can’t be addressed or implemented in isolation, and provide information on how to develop a systems approach that offers a coherent and inclusive city. Throughout the day you’ll get a chance to develop principles and a draft, actionable roadmap to strategic, holistic smart city implementations suited for your situation and an opportunity to network with leaders and systems thinkers in the integrated smart city field.
