OERP_IDEAn Saturday, February 27, sixteen high school students from the IDEA (Increasing Diversity and Enhancing Academia) geosciences program, met with UNC Geology faculty Dr. Joel Hudley and Dr. Melissa Hudley, along with IDEA undergraduate students Corey Moore and Jonathan Garrick, to learn about careers in geology and skills that are useful to geologists, like keen observation and the ability to classify.  The students also participated in a discussion about the need for diversity in the sciences so that the scientists of the world are more representative of the people of the world.  During this Saturday Academy, the students also participated in Peak Oil simulation game to learn about the interaction between technology, resource extraction, and environmental regulation.
