ERP_saturday academy 3On Saturday, February 28th, twenty-six students from the IDEA and Climate LEAP high school programs participated in an activity to learn about sustainable cities and climate change. The students, led by Dana Haine, Megan Hughes, and David Salvesen, constructed a city out of cardboard boxes and learned about sustainable design principles and technologies that are better for people and the planet. After learning more about how to make cities more healthy and sustainable, students practiced creative reuse by using materials from Durham’s “Scrap Exchange” to create parks, pathways, renewable energy systems, and stormwater BMPs (Best Management Practices).
